Founder story

The Experience Behind One & Only

A support worker, a participant and a family member talking together around a kitchen table over cups of tea.A small group taking part in an art activity around a table at a community centre with a support worker.

Professional Service Background

The founder began their working life as a professional butler.

That work set a standard around attention to detail, anticipating what people need and making people feel respected and valued. Those habits carried straight into support work.

Aged Care

After completing a Diploma of Community Services, the founder moved into aged care and spent 12 years in the sector, initially as a Leisure and Lifestyle Officer and later as a Coordinator.

They planned and delivered activities based around residents' abilities, interests and needs, helping people remain active, involved and connected. They also provided personal care when required.

Disability Support

The founder later worked for five years as a Disability Support Worker.

They continued their professional development by completing an Advanced Diploma of Community Service Management.

Disability Management

The founder then moved into management for six years. For four of those years they were responsible for supporting more than 25 clients and leading a team, working to make sure people received appropriate care, support and opportunities connected to their goals.

That work involved close contact with Support Coordinators, families and allied health professionals.

Why One & Only Was Started

That experience showed that good disability support needs to be about more than completing tasks.

It needs to understand the person. It needs trust. It needs meaningful opportunities. It needs practical support that respects the individual's choices, dignity and goals.

That belief led to One & Only Community Support Services.
